I design dynamic images specifically for social media to draw readers into Washington Post stories. I also work directly with the social media team to create campaigns for native social media content on Instagram and Snapchat! This is one of my favorite parts of working on the Emerging News Products team – creating content for readers, where they consume our content the most.
I worked with Alex Laughlin to create a style for an Instagram campaign that interviewed college students from Miami-Dade College in Miami, Florida about what it is like to be a first generation voter in this election.
I worked on this awesome project with Amy King, Amy Cavenaile and Allison Michaels. We crowdsourced the puns from a Slack room, made the valentines by hand and then placed the type in Photoshop. You can view them here & here on The Washington Post. This also ran on Instagram, as you can see below. I created a snapstory using these puns and asking readers to submit them. This was one of the most successful Snapchat stories on The Washington Post's account. You can see that below.
I work with several editors across the newsroom to create images for stories, with social media in mind. The goal is to grab a reader's attention when browsing Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I create these photo illustrations using iStock and photos from Getty, AP and The Washington Post to make these composites. I do not take credit for original artwork.
